All About Me
I grew up in the countryside which allowed me to develop a deep connection and understanding of animals. It began with cats and dogs mostly as my mum bred samoyed dogs as well as working as a dog groomer. We only had limited interaction with horses, went on a pony trek, did a lesson or two.
It wasn't until I was fourteen that we got our first horse, Leo. Back then the internet wasn't really a thing so we really had no idea what we were doing, no idea how to handle or work with a horse. Eventually he became a just a pasture pet. My life was going in a completely different direction after school, university and work so I never thought of working with horses as something I could do professionally.
Then covid turned everything on its head. I lost a lot of work and came back home. At that point we had a white Connemara, Shadow, roaming the fields. I thought 'well I have all this free time, I'm going to get back into horses and get this horse back to riding'. Now with the internet I was able to learn everything I needed to learn and watch videos from anyone and everyone.
I told Shadow that I wasn't going to put a bit in her mouth, it just didn't feel right for me. So I started looking up bit-less riding, which led me liberty and then to western hackamores and bosels and then finally I found Horsemanship. Everything I started learning I started putting into practice on Shadow and she taught me a lot, hard lessons that ended up in the dirt, humbled. But it's thanks o her and thanks to the many horsemen and horsewomen that I now have a wealth of knowledge and experience I can use to help others.
